Troubled actor Vince Colosimo denies his new film role is a comeback

Vince Colosimo has denied his new role in Stan original thriller The Second is a ‘comeback’ following his drug scandal last year.

The Underbelly star, 51, was convicted and fined for driving with a suspended licence and under the influence of ice in November 2017.

He told New Idea: ‘I don’t view it as a comeback at all. I feel like I never went.’

While Colosimo is undoubtedly in a better place than he was this time last year, he rejects the narrative that his latest film is an ‘attempt at redemption’.

Speaking of the media coverage of his legal troubles, he added: ‘I can’t police the truth. I can’t police what people write.

‘I’m here to push a film that is great. If they want to veer it off to something else, then so be it. We’re all voyeuristic in a way.’

Late last month, Colosimo denied he was ever addicted to ice and only used the illegal drug three or four times in under a year.

The actor told Fairfax he was ‘p**sed off’ at allegations that he was dependent on the substance – and insisted he only tried the drug because he was ‘curious’.

‘I felt like I sort of just “clicked” and went into another area for a while. And I know that area now,’ Colosimo said.

‘[Sometimes] you take a little leap – I always have, I’m a curious person – without knowing the cost. Now I know what it costs.’

‘But what p**sed me off more than anything was the story that people were getting was that I was weak and addicted and going through all this stuff… But I really wasn’t,’ he added.

In November 2017, Vince was convicted and fined for driving through Melbourne’s CBD while suspended and under the influence of ice.

He pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court after being charged with driving on a suspended licence with the drug in his system when stopped and tested on 5 March 2017.

He said nothing in court, except to acknowledge that he understood the penalty.

Magistrate David Starvaggi convicted and fined Colosimo $3,500. He also cancelled his licence for five months.

It was the third time that Colosimo had been caught driving on a suspended license, The Age previously reported.

The magistrate said that even a child in kindergarten could understand the issue of driving under the influence.

‘You’re building a nice little history for yourself here,’ he said. ‘You’re risking a jail term… if you’re back here for a fourth time it won’t be pretty.’

Colosimo had to pay some court costs, as well as the fine and five-month license suspension.
