  • Dashcam footage showed truck veer across traffic on approach to tunnel
  • It sheered the right side off a 4WD and hit another car before stopping
  • Driver, 34, passed out behind the wheel during a ‘medical episode’
  • Prado driver suffered arm injury but was otherwise unharmed in the crash

A woman is lucky to be alive after a truck veered into her lane and sheered off the side of her 4WD after the driver passed out.

Terrifying dashcam footage showed the truck approaching a tunnel in Ryde, Sydney, and drift across lanes of traffic onto the wrong side of the road.

With the 34-year-old driver unconscious, the truck hit a red Toyota Prado and sheered the right side clean off before clipping another car.

Video from a rear camera showed the 4WD spin out of control on to the other side of the road after it was hit, narrowly avoiding hitting another car.

The truck finally came to rest on the far wall of the tunnel on Devlin Road on Monday morning, fortunately without slamming into it.

The truck driver ‘suffered a medical episode’ before the crash and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment, police said.

The 46-year-old driver of the Prado was taken to hospital with a gash on her upper arm but was otherwise uninjured.

Several other motorists pulled over inside the tunnel and rushed to help the truck driver and other victim.

Two bigger trucks blocked half the tunnel to make the scene safe to help the driver in his cab until an ambulance arrived.
