Truck driver decorates his ute with 5000 Christmas lights

An Australian truck driver has truly embraced the festive season by decorating his utility vehicle with thousands of twinkling Christmas lights.

Scott Freeman, a trucker from Londonderry in Sydney’s northwest, spent hours wrapping his beloved car in 5000 multi-coloured lights – and the results are spectacular.

The 26-year-old said he wanted to join fellow home owners by setting up lights around his home, but his property is tucked away 200m in bushland, meaning no onlookers could enjoy it.

‘I’ve always wanted to get involved in Christmas spirit, I love Christmas and love my cars, I wanted to combine the two together to be different,’ Mr Freeman told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We started doing the Christmas lights about five years ago for the sake of doing something different.’

Mr Freeman has collected his impressive arsenal of lights over the years from Big W, Woolworths, Coles, Kmart and Ronis.

To hold them on, he uses lots of automotive tape and cable ties and only turns on the lights when the car isn’t being driven.

The inventive truck driver said he originally wanted to decorate his house but knew it would be pointless being hidden so far into the bush.

‘We came up with the idea as the house we would like to do up is 200m off the road in bushland and wanted to experiment to see what people would think. People loved it from our first car so we have continued with more lights and different cars,’ he added.

The festive end result is a twinkling rainbow of stunning fairy lights which Mr Freeman said is loved by locals in Londonderry.

The truck driver can’t legally operate the vehicle while the lights are on, and instead drives around the area and parks his ute to show off his handiwork.

‘You definitely can’t drive with them on. I drive with them off and drive to fully done up houses with good audience and park out front of their houses. I go house to house,’ Mr Freeman added.

In previous years Mr Freeman has decorated his other cars and is dedicated to creating his Christmas masterpiece again in 2018.
