A truckie has recalled his scary split second decision to swerve his semi trailer onto soft gravel shoulders to dodge a P-plate driver coming straight toward him.
Roy Sloan, from Wagin in WA’s Great Southern, was forced to drive his 42-tonne truck carrying grain off the road while travelling on Albany Highway in November last year.
He said not only did he need to think about not rolling his truck, he had to protect the lives of the people inside six smaller oncoming vehicles.

‘It was trying to overtake five vehicles at the time and looking up in front I had nowhere to go,’ he told 7 News.
‘It was pretty scary, I had to try and miss obviously the car coming towards me and miss the guide posts if I could.’
Mr Sloan, who works as a farmhand and part time truck driver, said he only had time to slow down to about 70km/h before reaching the cars.
Dashcam footage showed a black sedan trying to overtake a long line of cars on Albany Highway in Western Australia
‘It was pretty difficult trying not to roll the truck and miss the vehicle with very little room on each side.’
He saw dash cam footage of his near-miss, 10 kilometres south of Williams, after it was shared widely online last week, and reported the incident to police on Sunday.
The horrifying video showed the small black sedan swerving to the left before a truck speeds past with its left wheels off the road.
