Truck slams into side of turning SUV in northern Sydney

  • A semi trailer ploughed through a Holden Captiva at a Castle Hill intersection
  • The 4WD was turning right as the truck travelling straight through the lights
  • Dash cam footage divided opinions over which driver had broken the road rules

A semi trailer has been captured smashing into a 4WD in the middle of an intersection in horrifying dash cam footage.

The black Holden Captiva was turning right at a set of traffic lights on Wednesday morning in Castle Hill, northern Sydney, when it was struck by a truck carrying two trailers.

Smashed glass and a broken hubcap were sent flying on impact as the car spiraled out of control across the road and into stalled traffic.

Uploaded to Dash Cam Owners Australia’s Facebook page, the clip filmed by a nearby driver has divided social media users over which driver was in the wrong.

The black vehicle appears to follow in the path of other cars making a right turn, but appears to have left it too late to escape the path of the incoming truck.

A car was pictured pulling up to the rear of the truck after it came to a halt – fueling speculation the truck was passing through on a green light.

‘Looks like the right hand turning car was just mindlessly following on.. he saw the truck coming early but too late… you can see him realising his mistake and actually started to come down the right hand turning lane,’ a social media user wrote.

While several people rushed to the defense of the truckie, others were blatantly on the fence – instead commenting their praise for the dash cam owner’s choice of music.

In a rather ironic sequence, the collision unfolded as a valiant orchestral piece played through the sound system.

‘As bad as this accident was, I’m so sorry… I can’t stop laughing about the music. So relevant. Just a shame the timing was out!,’ one wrote.
