Trump called to congratulate author of book that slams Fire and Fury

President Trump called up the author of a book that hits back at Michael Wolff’s scathing Fire and Fury – congratulating him and branding Wolff’s book ‘a total con job’.

Eddie Scarry, a reporter for the Washington Examiner, took a call from the White House after Trump discovered he was penning a response to Wolff’s explosive work.

Scarry’s book, titled Fraud and Fiction, published by Bombardier Books, tells how President Trump personally picked up the phone to contact the author.

During an eight-minute-long conversation Trump described Wolff’s best seller: ‘That book was a total fraud. It was a disgrace. It was really disgraceful.’

Trump described Wolff’s book as ‘a total con job,’ adding he hoped Scarry’s work would ‘decimate the crap out of it,’ reports Page Six.

Scarry added: ‘Watching [Wolff’s] anti-Trump book blaze around the world, selling millions of copies, based largely on a bunch of lies, will go down in history as one of the weirdest things that ever happened in presidential politics.’

In Wolff’s book he writes he spent three hours with the president.

But according to Scarry, Trump denied this, insisting: ‘He never met me. He called . . . I said, I don’t want to meet with him. I said I didn’t think it was appropriate. He was never in the Oval Office.’

During the call Trump steered the topic towards media coverage of his administration, singling out CNN boss Jeff Zucker as ‘a real loser’ and ‘a total joke’.

He also said of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un: ‘I get it done. Obama didn’t even know [Kim] was alive.’

Trump followed up on those comments today, one again targeting CNN President Zucker: ‘Check out the fact that you can’t get a job at ratings challenged CNN unless you state that you are totally anti-Trump?

‘Little Jeff Zuker, whose job is in jeopardy, is not having much fun lately. They should clean up and strengthen CNN and get back to honest reporting!’

A spokesperson for CNN responded, saying: ‘Once again, false. The personal political beliefs of CNN’s employees are of no interest to us.

‘As for ‘challenged,’ CNN just finished its second highest rated first quarter in the past nine years. Those are the facts.’
