Trump family botched New York mayoral ballots

President Donald Trump and his closest family members engaged in some voter suppression – of themselves – through typos and errors that invalidated ballots in the New York City mayor’s race.

None of the family members made it to New York Nov. 7, when Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio was roaring to reelection.

President Trump signed an absentee ballot with the same bold signature he applies to laws and executive orders. But the president was off by a month with his birth month.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE! President Trump and family members turned in ballots in the New York mayor’s race that had problems with signatures, dates, and postmarks

Trump was born on on June 14, 1946, but the form he returned to the city Board of Elections said July, the New York Daily News reported.

The date was typed in on a form carrying the president’s signature – suggesting the possibility that an aide wrote it and the president failed to correct his birthday.

The ballot otherwise appeared fine, and it wasn’t immediately known whether election officials would have checked birth dates for accuracy or discarded a ballot for that reason.

The president’s wife, first lady Melania Trump, didn’t do much better. She failed to sign the outside of the envelope, contrary to security requirements set up to guard against voter fraud – a top concern of her husband’s administration.

‘If any of the information is missing it is invalid,” a Board of Elections official told the paper.

Melania Trump’s ballot was filled out in all capital letters and signed October 19, the same day the president signed his. Both were marked ‘Ballot Taken’ and received by the board of elections.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS: Mayor Bill de Blasio casts a vote for himself in Brooklyn on Election Day. He was easily reelected

The president’s daughter, Ivanka didn’t get her vote counted. She didn’t mail her ballot until Election Day, which was too late to have it counted, according to the report.

Her husband, Jared Kushner, didn’t return his ballot.

If the quartet had voted against de Blasio, a liberal who has revealed his own higher aspirations through trips to Iowa, it would not have changed the outcome.

He easily beat Republican state assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis by 67 to 28 per cent of the vote.

Trump is no fan of de Blasio. He called him the ‘worst mayor in the United States’ in a 2015 tweet.
