Trump feared Rudy Giuliani was ‘drinking too much’ before he hired him

‘Morning Joe’ Scarborough introduced a new theory for TV interviews by Rudy Giuliani that have aggravated President Trump – suggesting the former New York mayor has a drinking problem.

Speaking on his MSNBC show Tuesday, Scarborough criticized Trump for bringing Giuliani aboard his legal team ‘despite his own reservations about him.’

Then he added: ‘Everybody around Donald Trump said he was drinking too much — Donald Trump suggested as much — that was two years ago.’

Scarborough used to talk regularly with Trump, although the two have had a bitter falling out.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has kept the focus on the Stormy Daniels scandal with his TV interviews

The host then went after Giuliani for his tactics. Among other things, Giuliani has acknowledged to Fox News host Sean Hannity that Trump reimbursed lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130,000 payment to buy the silence of porn star Stormy Daniels.

He said Trump reimbursed Cohen through monthly payments in exchange for no work, and agreed when Hannity said the money got ‘funneled’ through a law firm.

‘The fact that Donald Trump brought this guy in two years later despite his own reservations about him almost two years ago – It’s not 3-D chess. That’s not even checkers,’ Scarborough said, ripping the legal team’s efforts.

‘That’s a monkey throwing poo against the wall, and it doesn’t usually turn out well,’  said Scarborough.

He dismissed an idea floated by guest Mike Barnicle that it could be an effort to distract from other issues.

‘Because every day Giuliani says something that is so odd and so at odds with what we know that you wonder, are they just continuing this thing to keep us preoccupied with things that are going on in public, Giuliani talking about Donald Trump?’ Barnicle said, The Hill reported.

But Scarborough said ‘they’re not that smart.’

Donald Trump said during the transition that Rudy Giuliani was losing it. That he was a couple of steps behind. that he was falling asleep five minutes into meetings.’

At one point, his wife and co-host Mika Brzezinski said there were things she shouldn’t even mention about Giuliani.

‘I can mention it,’ Scarborough continued. ‘Everybody around Donald Trump said he was drinking too much. Donald Trump suggested as much – that was two years ago,’ he said.

A day earlier, Brzezinski referred to Giuliani as a ‘train wreck.’

Trump is so irked by Giuliani’s recent TV performances, which some experts say could land him in legal hot water, that he even considered benching him from further appearances, the Associated Press reported.

After the reaction to his initial bombshell interview on Hannity, Trump said Giuliani should ‘get his facts straight.’

Among other statements, Giuliani said longtime Trump lawyer Michael Cohen ‘takes care of situations like this, then gets paid for them sometimes.’

The president told one advisor he thinks Giuliani should ‘be benched,’ according to the report.

Giuliani’s high-profile flubs occurred after Trump attorney lawyer John Dowd left his team and White House lawyer Ty Cobb also announced his departure.
