President Donald Trump proclaimed Thursday morning that there was a ‘good possibility’ the war in Ukraine would end after his talks Wednesday first with Russian President Vladimir Putin and then Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump took to Truth Social first thing Thursday morning to share the sentiment after a series of major developments took place in the past 24 hours.

‘GREAT TALKS WITH RUSSIA AND UKRAINE YESTERDAY. GOOD POSSIBILITY OF ENDING THAT HORRIBLE, VERY BLOODY WAR!!!’ Trump posted in all caps.

The president used his social media network to announce that he had spoken by phone with Putin for an hour and a half Wednesday – the first known direct contact between the Russian and U.S. leaders since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

He later told reporters in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon that he would likely meet the Russian leader face-to-face in Saudi Arabia, as he eyes a trip to the Middle East as his first foreign outing.

‘We expect that he’ll come here, and I’ll go there, and we’re going to meet also, probably in Saudi Arabia,’ Trump told reporters during a swearing-in ceremony for his Director of National Intelligence, former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. ‘The first time, we’ll meet in Saudi Arabia, see if we can get something done.’

‘We know the crown prince, I think it would be a very good place to meet,’ Trump added.

He added that the meeting would occur in the ‘not too distant future.’

During his 25 minute back-and-forth with reporters, Trump also signaled that a peace deal might not be too tough on Russia – the aggressor in the war, who experts warned could be back for more European territory if he’s allowed to keep some of the territorial gains in Ukraine.

‘I tell you they’re drinking vodka straight out of the bottle in the Kremlin tonight,’ said Trump’s former National Security Advisor John Bolton.

Bolton has since become a top Trump critic – with Trump retaliating by canceling Bolton’s Secret Service protection, despite him still being under Iranian assassination threat.

‘It was a great day for Moscow,’ Bolton said on CNN.

On Tuesday Russia released American teacher Fogel, setting the stage for the Putin call.

Trump didn’t commit to including Zelensky in the Saudi meeting with Putin.

‘Probably we’ll have a first meeting and then we’ll see what we can do about the second meeting,’ he answered.

‘No, I haven’t committed to going to Ukraine,’ he answered when asked if he’d make the voyage to Kyiv. ‘I would think about going,’ he then added.

Zelensky will meet Friday in Munich with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

It comes after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent traveled to Kyiv to meet with the Ukrainian leader and after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the administration was against Ukraine joining NATO.

Asked about the Pentagon chief’s comments – that it was ‘unlikely or impractical’ for Ukraine to join NATO, Trump told reporters ‘probably that’s true.’

‘They’ve been saying that for years, that Ukraine cannot go into NATO, and I’m OK with that,’ Trump said.

Trump denied that he was squeezing Zelensky out of the process – while also pushing that the Ukrainian leader was politically unpopular.

‘No, I don’t think so, as long as he’s there,’ Trump answered.

‘But at some point you’re going to have elections too. You have to have an election too,’ the president added.
