Trump tweets ‘Make America Great Again’ to racism op-ed

President Donald Trump is enjoying a working vacation this Thanksgiving, with the Commander-in-Chief kicking off the holiday by posting a few tweets from Mar-a-Lago on Thursday morning.

His first tweet came at 6:28am, with President Trump informing his followers that the ‘country is starting to do really well’ before going on to write that jobs are coming back, the stock market is the highest ever and the military is strong.

President Trump followed that up with a second tweet on his account at 6:44am, writing: ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’

He had written that same tweet however just three minutes after his first social media post at 6:31am, only he appeared to have accidentally posted it in response to another Twitter user’s post.

That Twitter user was Washington Post writer Greg Sargent, and his post had been a link to his latest op-ed which accuses President Trump of ‘going out of his way’ to attack African-Americans.

‘Let’s be clear about this: President Trump regularly goes out of his way to attack prominent African Americans not just to “stoke the culture wars,” as this euphemism often has it — but, more precisely, to stoke the sense among many of his supporters that the system is unfairly rigged on behalf of minorities, and that he’s here to put things right,’ writes Sargent at the start of his piece.

He then goes on to give examples including Lavar Bell, whose son was briefly detained by Chinese authorities for shoplifting while overseas on a college trip.

After President Trump’s administration negotiated the release of the boy and two others, the former reality star took issue with Ball for not thanking him sufficiently for the safe return of his son.

At one point, President Trump went so far as to tweet that he should have left the young men in jail overseas.

The story goes on to point out similar feuds President Trump has had with Representative Frederica S. Wilson of Florida and more recently kneeling football star Marshawn Lynch.

‘Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem,’ wrote President Trump on Tuesday.

‘Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season.’

Rep. Wilson, a Democrat who publicly criticized how President Trump handled a bereavement call with a young military widow got the John Kelly treatment, with the Chief-of-Staff calling her an ’empty barrel’ and making numerous false claims about her involvement with a recently completed FBI field office in South Florida.

Sargent closes by writing: ‘Also, it would be deeply unfair to Trump to suggest that this constitutes a pattern of race-baiting on his part, and deeply unfair to his supporters to suggest that such a pattern might be designed to resonate with them, if that pattern existed at all, which it doesn’t.’

Meanwhile, many are taking delight in president Trump’s tweet, which remains on social media three hour after it was first posted on Thursday.

And among those who have responded to President Trump is Sargent, who tweeted: ‘Happy Thanksgiving, Mr. President.’
