  • A 24-year-old man allegedly assaulted two-month-old twin boys in March 2019
  • The man is also alleged to have assaulted a 15-month-old boy in May 2013

A 24-year-old man has been charged over the alleged assault of a toddler and twin babies in the NSW Riverina region.

He allegedly assaulted the two-month-old twin boys on separate occasions in March 2019, and the 15-month-old boy in May 2013.

Detectives initially looked into the case in 2013 when the 15-month-old presented to hospital with facial bruising and bleeding, police say.

They investigated but no one at the time was charged.

Police investigated again in March of this year when one of the two-month-olds was taken to hospital after becoming unresponsive.

‘Officers were told by the doctors the baby had suffered leg fractures, significant head trauma and facial bruising,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

Detectives were later told the other two-month-old boy had been taken to hospital after losing consciousness that same month.

Their investigation culminated in the 24-year-old man’s arrest at a business in the Riverina on Thursday afternoon.

He has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and reckless grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail ahead of an expected appearance at Griffith Local Court on Friday. Police say the infants are in the care of family.
