A young mum has reflected on the miracle of her ‘roadside babies’ after she dramatically gave birth to adorable twins on the side of a busy highway.

Tara Bishop, who was only 32-weeks-pregnant, welcomed premature twins Evelyn and Harvey into the world on the Pacific Motorway at the Tarragindi exit, just south of Brisbane at about 3:30am on October 31.

Paramedics knew they couldn’t make it to the hospital in time, so they pulled the ambulance over and delivered the babies.

‘It was a pretty dramatic arrival, obviously both of them couldn’t wait to meet us,’ Ms Bishop told Channel Nine.

‘Everything happened so fast.’

She began experiencing strong contractions and saw her waters break just hours earlier at her home in SunnyBank.

‘I was going to drive her to the Mater Mothers’ Hospital in Brisbane and I am so glad I didn’t,’ her partner Hayden Davies.

Mr Davies followed the ambulance in his car when he saw the vehicle pull over.

He initially feared Ms Bishop, who suffers from epilepsy, might be having a seizure.

‘I ran to find out what happened and when I got there the paramedic said Evelyn had arrived and we needed to get to the Mater (Mothers’ Hospital) straight away,’ Mr Davies said.

Just minutes and another hasty stop later Ms Bishop had given birth to Harvey.

Being only 32 weeks into the normal 40-week cycle of pregnancy the twins are premature and both only weigh a bit over 1.7kg.

They have been placed into the Neonatal Critical Care Unit at the Mater for a month.

Despite some early complications Evelyn and Harvey have been described as ‘happy and healthy’.

The doting parents say they are looking forward to taking their special roadside deliveries home.
