Twitter has apologized for failing to address a threat that the ‘MAGAbomber’ suspect made to a Democratic political analyst just two weeks ago.
Rochelle Ritchie, a former Press Secretary for Congress, was threatened by Cesar Altier Sayoc in a tweet earlier this month after she appeared on a Fox News program.
However, when she reported the harassment, Twitter dismissed her complaint, saying that no rules had been violated.
After Sayoc was taken into FBI custody on Friday, Ritchie spoke out again as it was revealed the suspect had repeatedly sent threats to celebrities and political figures including Joe Biden, Jim Carrey and Ron Howard.
Twitter reacted to the reports in a thread on the @TwitterSafety handle, writing: ‘We made a mistake when Rochelle Ritchie first alerted us to the threat made against her. The Tweet clearly violated our rules and should have been removed. We are deeply sorry for that error.’

The social media giant tweeted an apology for its failure to take Ritchie’s report seriously under its @TwitterSafety handle on Friday. The apology came after it was revealed that Sayoc had tweeted numerous similar threats to several celebrities and Democratic party leaders
The statement continued: ‘We are investigating what happened and will continue to work to improve how we handle concerns raised by anyone on Twitter.
‘We want Twitter to be a place where people feel safe, and we know we have lot of work to do.’
Sayoc had targeted Ritchie on October 11 under the Twitter handle @hardrock2016, writing: ‘So you like make threats. We Unconquered Seminole Tribe will answer your threats. We have nice silent Air boat ride for u here on our land Everglades Swamp. We will see you 4 sure. Hug your loved ones real close every time you leave home.’
Then he sent photos taken from her social media page and put it alongside horrific images of alligators eating humans.
She reported him to Twitter but they said he didn’t violate any rules or exhibit abusive behavior and did not penalize his account.
Under the handle @hardrock2016, Sayoc threatened to send Ritchie to the Everglades to be eaten by alligators and warned her to ‘hug her loved ones’ after she appeared on Fox News
He followed up with a picture intended to depict Ritchie, but was really singer Rochelle Humes, and horrific images of alligators eating humans
On October 11, Twitter said ‘there was no violation of the Twitter rules’ and Sayoc’s account was not suspended or penalized
Ritchie reflagged the harassment on Friday after Sayoc was taken into FBI custody
On Friday she reflagged the harassment to Twitter.
‘Hey @Twitter remember when I reported the guy who was making threats towards me after my appearance on @FoxNews and you guys sent back a bs response about how you didn’t find it that serious. Well guess what it’s the guy who has been sending #bombs to high profile politicians!!!!’ she tweeted on Friday.
She shared a screenshot of his threat and her e-mail from Twitter.
In the Twitter thread she responded to Sayoc’s tweet saying: ‘Threatening my life…bad idea.’
Much of Sayoc’s tweets were threats.
His Twitter page is full of pro-Republican and anti-Democratic propaganda and he often inundated accounts he didn’t like – most noticeably TMZ – with such anti-Liberal content.
His threats were all made in the same fashion and in the name of the ‘Unconquered Seminole Tribe’.
The tweets also all said there was a boat waiting in Everglades for his targets so they could be eaten by alligators, accompanied by photos of the creatures feasting upon people.
Sayoc sent death threat tweets to celebrities and political figures like (from top left to bottom right) Joe Biden, Colin Kaepernick, Jim Carrey, and Ron Howard
Sayoc, who went under ‘Cesar Altieri’ on Twitter made similar threats to former Vice President Joe Biden, sending him pictures of the politician’s home and families
He sent the same threat to actor Ron Howard in response to a tweet urging people to vote on October 13
In the name of ‘We Unconquered Seminole Tribe’ he urged his 1,669 followers to not vote for gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum
In a tweet to former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden, Sayoc wrote: ‘Piece slime trash. Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. U like make threats run mouth wannabe tough guy. We Unconquered Seminole Tribe going answer your threats. We have Air boat tour of our Swamp, Everglades 4 U. Hug your loved son, Niece, wife family real close every time you walk out your home.’
He included a picture of Biden’s home and family in the tweet.
In a reply to a TMZ story about Jim Carrey pleading Trump supporters to ‘Stop doing stupid s***’, Sayoc replied saying ‘Welcome to our Unconquered Seminole Tribe our gators are looking forward meet you . Your destiny awaits guaranteed hug loved ones real close every day you leave you home.’
Attached in the tweet are alarming photos of alligators eating humans.
He also targeted Colin Kaepernick and Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum on his page. On the flip side, he praised Donald Trump, Kanye West, and Brett Kavanaugh in his tweets.
Much of his Twitter page is sending the same Republican memes and photos to other accounts.
One of these photos say: ‘Democrats fought to stop Blacks from having the Right to vote. They can lie all they want now, but the truth is the truth!”
On his Twitter page he identifies himself as a Booking Agent for Hard Rock Love, a former professional soccer player, wrestler, and cage fighter.
He has 1,669 followers and his last tweet was from Tuesday.
He sent menacing pictures of gators eating humans to TMZ and Jim Carrey in response to a story where the actor urged Trump supporters to ‘Stop doing stupid s***’
He sent a similar message to Colin Kaepernick calling him a ‘worthless cry baby’ and saying ‘The Cuban people should have taken to our Everglades’
He showed support for the president and Kanye West on Twitter saying his tribe ‘stands with’ Trump
