Twitter goes into overdrive as fans SELL OUT in UK heatwave

Brits sweltering through the UK’s longest heatwave since 1976 have taken to Twitter in a panic as they desperately seek out fans to keep them cool.

The mercury is set to soar to 91F (33C) today, but those hoping for the relief of some cool air have been left frustrated with some complaining of entire towns across the country being sold out of fans.

One commenter reported that fans were completely sold out in Chelmsford; James Lund from Leeds said he couldn’t find a fan for his grandmother, and a Lincoln resident also reported that shelves were bare.

Amy Brunsdon from Reading tried B&Q, Screwfix, Currys and B&M before finally having success at AO.com, which yesterday had its biggest day ever in sales of cooling and air treatment products, with sales up 382 per cent week-on-week.

Brits, such as this struggling London commuter, are having their misery compounded as fans sell out all around the country

Meanwhile, Jamie Conner from Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire also complained that there were no fans to be had.

One Twitter user advised followers to try Poundstretcher, as it was the only place she’d found in Folkestone, Kent that wasn’t sold out.

Yesterday, John Lewis said sales of electrical cooling products were up 315% week-on-week as weather forecasts showed no relief from the high temperatures for at least a fortnight.

Pharmacy chain Superdrug said it had reordered stocks of its mini fans after they sold out.

Amazon.co.uk said it had seen a 2,100% month-on-month increase in sales of air cooling items such as fans and a 650% month-on-month rise on some swimming pools.

On the need for Brits to stay cool, AO.com Purchasing Director, Paul Whyte said, ‘We’ve enjoyed a great summer of sport and now the weather is playing ball too.

‘As temperatures continue to soar we’ve seen our customers investing in fans and air conditioning units for them to use to stay cool, not only during this summer’s heatwave but for any other future unpredictable weather’.
