Twitter users mock Ivanka Trump’s eclipse post

Twitter users roasted Ivanka Trump’s post dedicated to the solar eclipse on Monday, with Judd Apatow asking her if her protective glasses enabled her to look into her father’s ‘dead eyes’.

The first daughter shared a short video of herself putting on her eclipse glasses ahead of the historical event, telling her followers: ‘Remember to wear your glasses.’

But some Twitter users cared little for her tips and instead promptly responded with pointed references to President Donald Trump’s administration.

Several people asked whether the White House believes in science when eclipses are concerned, even though Trump has an established record of denying climate change is real.

‘Oh, I get it. Science is only real when you can tweet something fun,’ someone wrote in response to Ivanka’s post.

Another person asked: ‘So the White House believes scientists about eclipse eye safety but not about climate or conservation science?’

One Twitter user told Ivanka the eclipse glasses are also useful ‘for temporarily blogging out the view of your corrupt, racist administration and the hate it spreads around the world’.

Later on Monday, Ivanka watched the eclipse with her father, first lady Melania Trump, her brother Barron and other officials from a balcony in the White House.

During the viewing session, President Trump seemed to have trouble heeding his own daughter’s advice about using eclipse glasses, as he stared into the sun directly, without protective gear, thus risking blindness.

On Sunday, Ivanka jetted back to Washington, D.C. aboard Air Force One, coming back from Morristown, New Jersey as her father wrapped up a 17-day vacation at his private golf club.

The first daughter carried her one-year-old son Theodore up the steps to board the presidential aircraft while holding hands with her eldest daughter Arabella, six, after enjoying a getaway at the family’s property in Bedminster.

President Trump arrived to the capital a short time later with his wife Melania and their son Barron.

Ivanka and her children were all dressed in matching tones as they boarded the plane on Sunday, with the first daughter opting for a white off-shoulder dress, paired with matching flat sandals and pendant earrings.

Theodore donned a white shirt and sneakers, along with a pair of gray pants, while Arabella was dressed in a light-colored dress with a floral pattern and a navy blue Peter Pan collar.

Like her mother, Arabella wore white sandals, with a row of tiny flowers matching the pattern on her dress.

Later on Sunday, Ivanka took to Instagram to share a photo of Theodore, apparently exhausted by the trip. The little boy appeared to be sleeping peacefully with his thumb in his mouth, a stuffed bunny at his side.

Ivanka was previously seen with her husband, Jared Kushner, 36, and their third child Joseph, three, jetting off to Bedminster in New Jersey earlier this month. The president was then kicking off his 17-day sojourn at the golf club.

Jared and Ivanka were in Vermont for a two-day vacation while President Trump claimed there were ‘very fine people’ among the crowd of white supremacists who marched in Charlottesville. They were then expected back in Bedminster, a White House official told Politico.

The day before she touched down in D.C., Ivanka took to social media to praise those who have stood against racism and antisemitism following the deadly white supremacist rally that took place in Charlottesville earlier this month.

On Saturday night, she tweeted: ‘It was beautiful to see thousands of people across the U.S.A come together today to peacefully denounce bigotry, racism & anti-semitism.’

She continued: ‘We must continue to come together, united as Americans!’

Ivanka had previously condemned the far right protesters in Charlottesville, in stark contrast to the reaction of her father.

She tweeted: ‘There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis. We must all come together as Americans — and be one country UNITED. #Charlottesville.’
