Avengers: Infinity War was one of the most hotly-anticipated movies of the year, generating a huge online buzz in the lead-up to its release. But having been on show for more than a week now, the movie is gaining social media fame for a whole new reason.
Beady-eyed fans have gleefully revealed on Twitter that one particularly ‘important’ scene between characters Wanda and Vision, played by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, features a rather bizarre – and very funny – addition in the background.
Despite the emotional tension of the scene, viewers can’t tear their eyes away from a hilarious sign that reads ‘we will deep fry your kebab’ complete with a Scottish Saltire flag underneath, which appears in the window of a kebab shop which serves as the background for the otherwise-tense movie moment.
The Avengers: Infinity War movie featured a scene in front of a fake kebab shop (pictured left) in Edinburgh, Scotland. Next to the shop was a sign that read, ‘We will deep fry your kebab’
Dedication: One user showed her appreciation for the scene by changing her Twitter name to ‘we will deep fry your kebab’. The scene starred Elizabeth Olsen (left) who plays Wanda
Top spot: Another user called the scene ‘important, and somewhat romantic’. But that all was lost after people saw the poster in the background
Happy viewer: Bryan Morrison said the sign was the best part of the movie. It was featured in front of the movie set’s kebab shop in Edinburgh, Scotland
Immediately, fans took to Twitter calling this moment one of the best scenes in the movie and saying their theater erupted with laughter.
One person on Twitter said the scene was ‘important and somewhat romantic’ between the two characters. But that was all lost once everyone could read the sign in the background.
He said: ‘ (I) f**kin love what Scotland contributes to the world.’
Another user, Bryan Morrison, called the scene ‘the best part’ of the movie by far. George Fox said his entire theater lost ‘their s*** laughing at the “We Will Deep Fry Your Kebab!” sign in the background.’
Although some fans have since searched Edinburgh to see if the sign and kebab shop exists, it was in fact only part of the movie set.
‘Slaughtered a whole nation’: One user said the movie came after Scotland by making fun of the country’s love for deep-fried food
Upset: The kebab shop in the movie does not exist to some fans dismay. The location is actually a jewelry shop in Scotland
Possible merchandise? One user joked that they want to buy a shirt featuring the sign
‘Best part’: George Fox said his entire theater lost it when the sign appeared on screen; the audience was focused more on the kebabs than the two characters
The location is actually a vintage jewelry store called Miss Katie Cupcake.
Scotland is one place that is known for its kebabs, grease and all. But most locations don’t go the extra mile to deep fry the food.
The sign was possibly used by the movie producers to poke fun at the Scots for their love of deep frying food, such as Mars Bars and butter balls.
One person joked: ‘(The sign) slaughtered a whole nation. Most brutal scene. Pray we recover.’
Regardless, the sign sent people into fits of laughter as they focused less on the characters in the scene and more on where they could get a deep-fried kebab.
