Australia has been on lockdown for a number of months, with the number of cases in Melbourne recently spiking again in what looks like the start of a second wave.

Nationwide there are 2114 active COVID-19 cases, including 127 new cases reported in Victoria on Monday. A total of 106 people have died across all states, including 22 in Victoria.

The state has so far recorded 2660 COVID-19 cases to date.

The update comes as Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos confirmed the death of two men from the virus in the state.

One of the men was aged in his 60s, who died on Monday, with the other aged in his 90s succumbing to the deadly infection on Sunday.

It also comes as the ongoing surge in cases has led to the closure of the Victoria and NSW border.
