Relatives performed CPR while they waited for first responders to arrive.

The brothers were rushed to the Northwest Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

Their mother told reporters that she believes the boys somehow managed to get out of their apartment and climb over the locked pool fence.

‘I’m so sorry. If I was there I could have saved them on time,’ she said, according to NBC Miami.

‘I will always miss my babies. I’m sorry, Ja’Kye. I’m sorry, Branario. They’re only 5, and they’re only 6.’

Joseph said her sons were taking swimming lessons but only one of the boys had learned to swim on his own.

‘He thought he could swim, but he could not swim,’ she said.

Police said they are investigating the drowning deaths.

They are trying to speak to witnesses who may have seen the boys making their way from the apartment to the pool.

Child protective services removed the 4-month-old and 1-year-old siblings of the boys from the home while they continued the investigation.

Joseph has since set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the funerals of her two boys.
