Two Illawarra high schools and Wollongong TAFE evacuated over bomb threat

Thousands of students from two high schools south of Sydney are evacuated as police deal with terrifying bomb threat

  • Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts got bomb threat via email
  • Keira High School and Wollongong TAFE campus evacuated as a precaution 
  • Police investigated and searched with sniffer dogs but students were let back in 

Thousands of students from two high schools were evacuated on Monday morning after one received a bomb threat via email. 

Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts, Keira High School and the nearby TAFE campus were evacuated at around 11am.

Police told teachers and students to get out of the buildings after WHSPA got a threatening email.

The other school and the TAFE campus were evacuated as a precaution.

Officers searched with sniffer dogs before students were allowed to go back inside at around 12pm.

A student told the Illawara Mercury: ‘An alarm went off and teachers had no idea what was happening and then the deputy told us that they received an email about a bomb.’

 A spokesman for the Department of Education said: ‘The principals would like to commend students and staff for promptly following all safety procedures and their behaviour while police conducted their investigations.’
