Two men, aged 23 and 26, have been arrested following an alleged sexual assault and abduction in Melbourne, just two kilometres from where Eurydice Dixon was raped and murdered.

The woman was picked up and taken away in a car near Carlton’s strip of popular restaurants and cafes on Lygon Street at about 4.30am on Sunday June 17, police said.

Victoria Police said the woman, aged in her 30s, had been with a female friend in the CBD before the attack but had become separated when she was picked up and sexually assaulted in an unknown location.

Harley Palise, a 26-year-old man from Doreen in Melbourne’s north-east, handed himself in at the Spencer Street Police Complex on Friday evening June 22.

He was arrested by the Sexual Crimes Squad detectives and is currently in custody being interviewed by investigators.

Another man, aged 23 and also from Doreen, handed himself into Mernda police on Friday morning.

The 23-year-old was charged with abduction, two counts of rape, unlawful imprisonment and theft.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday evening.

Three male witnesses attended Epping police station on Thursday night and spoke to investigators.

The men came forward following CCTV footage released by police during a public appeal which showed a silver ute and three men who were in the area at the time.

The woman arrived home in the city’s northern suburbs about 5.30am. She then contacted police.

‘It’s enormously concerning whenever someone is sexually assaulted, however I understand that this will be particularly worrying for people who live around that area given recent events,’ Detective Inspector Steve Wilson said.

‘I want to reassure the community that we are doing absolutely everything we can to identify those responsible for this matter.’

‘People have the right to go out at night and enjoy themselves in our city – for a young woman’s night to end this way is absolutely unacceptable.’
