Two more infants die on newborn loungers: 10 babies have died – but THOUSANDS of recalled products are still for sale on Facebook Marketplace
Another two infants have died on newborn loungers, bringing the total fatalities to ten, it was revealed Wednesday.
More than three million Boppy newborn loungers — used to help babies sleep — sold in stores including Target, Walmart and Amazon were recalled in 2021.
But thousands are still showing up for sale on Facebook Marketplace and other websites, said the Colorado-based manufacturer, continuing to put babies at risk.
Children can suffocate on the loungers if they roll over, move, or are placed in a position that obstructs their breathing.
Health officials said infants should sleep on their back on a firm, flat surface such as in a crib.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and manufacturer The Boppy Company issued the alert Tuesday.
Of the new fatalities, one infant suffocated after rolling off the lounger and underneath a nearby adult pillow.
The second died after being placed on the lounger sitting on an adult bed surrounded by soft bedding.
The deaths occurred in October and November 2021, respectively, up to two months after the recall notice was first released.
‘Until these sales are stopped, babies will continue to be at risk of death,’ the agency’s commissioner Richard Trumka said in a statement.
He warned that Meta — Facebook’s owner — had ‘not taken effective action’ to remove the thousands of recalled loungers for sale on its website.
In September 2021, millions of Boppy Newborn Loungers were recalled.
These were the Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers.
The recall was triggered after eight infant deaths were linked to the loungers between 2015 and 2020.
Infants are at risk of suffocation on the mats if they roll over, move or are placed on them in a position that obstructs their breathing.
The Boppy company has offered a full refund for all the products but says that it kept seeing the recalled items for sale on Facebook and other online marketplaces.
The firm issued ‘numerous requests’ to the platforms to have the loungers removed, but said that the products ‘continue to appear for sale on their sites’.
The CPSC said that the best place for a baby to sleep continues to be a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet or play yard.
The agency warns that parents or caregivers should never add blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers or other items to an infant’s sleep environment.
Youngsters should also always be placed on their backs to sleep.
A spokeswoman for Meta said: ‘Like other platforms where people can buy and sell goods, there are instances of people knowingly or unknowingly selling recalled goods on Marketplace.
‘We take this issue seriously and when we find listings that violate our rules, we remove them.’
