Two New York City police officers help to deliver a baby on the side of the road on Easter Sunday

Two New York City Police Department officers helped a woman deliver her baby on the side of the road on the Upper East Side Sunday morning.

Philip Crotty and his wife Kelly, who were transported to NYU Langone Medical Center in Murray Hill, revealed their baby girl Claire is happy and healthy.

‘We got about five blocks. We were about to get on the (FDR) Drive, and my wife said, “Pull over, something’s happening,”‘ Crotty told the Daily News.

‘I could see that the baby was crowning, and I got her on her back, and within a couple of minutes, the baby was in my hands,’ he continued.

Officer Stephen Koustoubardis said he responded the 911 call of a woman in labor around 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

‘I actually stepped in and assisted the husband and took care of the rest of the delivery with him,’ Koustoubardis said.

The father revealed he is grateful for the two NYPD officers who apparently helped keep him calm until more help arrived, CBS reported.

The officers said they hadn’t even spoken to their families about the situation and were concerned they wouldn’t believe them due to it being April Fool’s Day.

Koustoubardis said: ‘At that time, we were flagged down by the husband that was already with her at the driver’s side of the vehicle and pretty much delivering the baby in labor at that moment.’

Officer Vincent Chiang said: ‘It was very uplifting. As police officers, we don’t normally handle these kinds of situations, and it feels great to help directly to bring a new life into this world.’

Chiang said he has only been on the force for eight months and his partner eight years, but neither have encountered a situation like this before.

‘Training kicks in and you focus on doing what you gotta do. It feels fantastic, a natural high feeling of being happy in life,’ Koustoubardis said.

The two men visited the parents and their newborn daughter on Sunday afternoon. ‘They were great,’ Crotty said.

Crotty and Kelly already have a three-year-old son called Emmett.
