An elderly woman enjoying a walk along the beach has been violently tackled to the ground by two teenage boys.

The 72-year-old was walking along the beach at Alexandra Headland on the Gold Coast about 4.50am on December 27 when she was allegedly attacked by an 18-year-old.

The teenager allegedly tackled her to the ground while his 19-year-old friend filmed the attack on his mobile.

The victim suffered an injured knee as she was forcefully shoved onto the sand.

She was able to make her way back home and alert the police who caught one of the suspects.

Police believe the man was intoxicated during the alleged attack and was encouraged by his friend to target the woman.

‘[He] was clearly a participant in encouraging his friend to carry out that behaviour,’ Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Edwards told Brisbane Times.

‘Intoxication might have been a contributor to it. Nevertheless, to decide to do that to another person – especially an older woman walking on her own – is quite beyond me quite honestly.’

He said the woman went for a walk every morning and shouldn’t have to ‘change her lifestyle’.

The pair were charged with serious assault and are due to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 31.
