A two-year-old boy has been left fighting for his life after tumbling out of a reversing station wagon. 

The toddler fell out of the slow-moving vehicle while it was reversing out of a driveway in Melbourne’s Cranbourne East at 10.20am on Sunday. 

The two-year-old suffered serious head lacerations, with police and ambulance called to the scene in Melbourne’s south-east.

The young boy was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the station wagon assisted police at the scene. 

Officers are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
