Tyra Banks admits to having plastic surgery early in her career

Tyra Banks has admitted to undergoing a nose job at the start of her career, after years of denying that she had plastic surgery.

The 44-year-old former supermodel made the confession in her newly-released memoir, Perfect is Boring, writing, ‘I had bones in my nose that were growing and itching.

‘I could breathe fine, but I added cosmetic surgery. I admit it! Fake hair, and I did my nose. I feel I have a responsibility to tell the truth,’ she explained.

Speaking to People, she added that she feels natural beauty is ‘unfair’ and noted that she is tired of people judging women who go under the knife.

‘I get really uncomfortable when women who are these natural beauties judge anybody who does anything to themselves.’

And while she hasn’t done any ‘age stuff’ yet, she doesn’t judge anyone who has.

‘Fix it or flaunt it — I think women should be able to do both,’ she offered.

‘There is a boundary line, either you’re super natural or you live at the plastic surgeon. It’s okay to hop back and forth over that line. You want a hair weave? Fine. You want permanent eyebrows? Fine. We as women need to stop judging,’ she added.

The mother-of-one also spoke out about her ‘need’ for makeup as a model and shared that she doesn’t understand why cosmetics have become so demonized by many in the industry.

‘As a model, I needed makeup. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that,’ she told the publication.

‘It leveled my playing field. Gisele, you don’t need it? I do! And we’re both modeling for Victoria’s Secret.’

Writing her memoir with her mother, Carolyn London, the queen of smizing also shared what her mom taught her about self-image growing up.

However, in the past she hasn’t been as forthright about her plastic surgery, failing to mention it in 2011 when interviewed by DailyMail.com’s Editor-at-Large Piers Morgan on his CNN talk show, Piers Morgan Tonight.

When asked if she was open to plastic surgery, Banks emphatically denied having breast implants.

‘It was a very big rumor that I had breast implants and I don’t blame you. They pretty much looked fake,’ she said. ‘I’ll admit that they did look fake, but they weren’t.

And in 2005 she underwent a televised sonogram on her now-cancelled talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, to prove her breasts weren’t fake.

‘I’m tired of this rumor. It’s something that’s followed me forever,’ she said.

After Banks asked the men in the audience to leave, Dr Garth Fisher from ABC’s Extreme Makeover performed a touch test and then the sonogram.

He concluded: ‘Tyra Banks has natural breasts; there are no implants.’

‘By no means am I saying a breast implant is a bad thing, but it’s not a choice that I made,’ the then-31-year-old model said.

‘But it’s something that a lot of the public… think that I have, and that’s so frustrating for me.’

‘I got fake hair, y’all. I got fake eyelashes.’
