Rung side of the law? Uber passengers spotted carrying a LADDER through the window of a taxi as it drives through Walsall

  • Two Uber passengers transported themselves and a ladder in the car
  • The incident happened in Walsall in the West Midlands
  • Mark Calver-Wilkes spotted the men with arms stretched out of the window
  • The duo show no sign of tiring as they hold on tight to the rungs of the ladder

The moment two Uber passengers decided to transport a ladder in a very inventive way has been captured on camera.

The unorthodox method was filmed by Mark Calver-Wilkes who spotted the men with their arms stretched out of the window clinging onto the rungs of the ladder in Walsall, West Midlands on September 12.

Mr Calver-Wilkes and his family enjoy the surreal incident so much that they decide to follow the car carrying the passengers as it travelled down Alumwell Road in Pelsall.

Mr Calver-Wilkes posted the video on Facebook and captioned it ‘no roof, rack no problem, adding: ‘Only in Walsall.’

The bemused driver decided to follow the taxi when he spotted it on Thursday evening (September 12), as one of his passengers caught it all on camera.

A little girl can be heard laughing along with Mr Calver-Wilkes as his car gets closer to the men who seem to be holding onto the ladder for dear life.

‘There’s two of them,’ Mr Calver-Wilkes said.

The shot of the car becomes clearer as the cars stop at traffic lights, and the laughter in the car gets louder.

‘Oh my days,’ said Mr Calver-Wilkes. ‘This is funny, this is.’

‘Only in Walsall,’ a woman in the car can be heard saying and Mr Calver-Wilkes adds: ‘Only in Walsall, I’m telling ya.’

‘I wonder what they are going to say if they get pulled,’ Mr Calver-Wilkes said.

The car continues down the street taking the men to their destination.

Walsall Council said it was taking the matter seriously:

‘The safety of passengers and other road users is of the highest priority to Walsall Council. All licensed private hire drivers undergo a practical driving assessment and training course before their licence is granted.’

‘Community protection officers will be speaking to the proprietor and driver of this vehicle about the matter before considering what action to take,’ a spokesperson said.
