Jaime Polanco, 21, was arrested on July 11 and charged with sexual battery after he allegedly raped a fellow scholar in his apartment a mile away from the UCF campus

A student at the University of Central Florida has been arrested and charged with sexual battery, after he allegedly raped a fellow scholar in his apartment and later admitted to the crime during a phone call with the police listening in.

Jaime Polanco, 21, was apprehended by authorities on July 11, around a month after the purported assault was slated to have taken place.

Polanco’s arrest came after the victim – whose name, age, and gender has been redacted from the affidavit – reported the assault to investigators, after the suspect turned up at their apartment last Thursday.

According to the victim, the rape occurred on June 10 at Polanco’s Knights Circle apartment, around a mile away from the UCF campus.

The victim says they went round to Polanco’s residence to watch a basketball game, with no intentions of having sex with him.

However, during the game, the suspect is said to have forced himself upon the accuser, who attempted to fend him off with a serious of punches and kicks.

For the next month, the victim didn’t speak to Polanco. But UCF officials were finally alerted to the claimed assault after the victim called campus police, telling the dispatcher that Polanco had just knocked on their door.

When the accuser first looked through the peephole of the door, they saw the suspect. When they looked a second time the hole was being covered by a sticky-note and the view blocked.

By the time officers arrived, the 21-year-old had left the victim’s apartment complex.

Officers then told the victim to call Polanco, a move that authorities claim elicited a confession out of the student.

‘I guess I just really wanted to have sex,’ Polanco reportedly said in the phone call. ‘I can’t justify it at all. What I did was terrible.’

Polanco is said to have gone on to admit that, though he had been drinking, alcohol wasn’t to blame and he remembered having sex. He added that he remembered the victim saying ‘no’ to his sexual advances in the build up to the assault.

‘Yeah, I am so sorry. I don’t know what was going through my head,’ Polanco reportedly continued, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. ‘I can’t justify it at all. What I did was terrible.’

He was arrested later the same day, issued a $10,000 bail bond and ordered not to contact the victim under any circumstances.

Polanco met the required bail amount and has since been released from Orange County Jail custody.

He currently faces charges of sexual battery, a first-degree felony in the state of Florida that carries a potential prison term of up to 30 years.

It’s not yet clear what actions, if any, the university has taken against Polanco in relation to the allegations.
