UFC fans lash out at Israel Adesanya over ‘snoozefest’ win as Kiwi champion brands them ‘drunks’

UFC fans lash out at Israel Adesanya over ‘snoozefest’ win over Jared Cannonier that was so boring they queued up to leave before the final round – but angry Kiwi star brands them ‘drunks’

  • Video footage shows fans heading for the exits during the UFC 276 main event
  • Those who stayed launched a barrage of boos at the lack of action in the match
  • Both fighters adopted an evasive strategy and there were few highlights
  • Adesanya clapped back at his detractors, calling them drunks after the fight

When Israel Adesanya walked out to the octagon in UFC 276 dressed as The Undertaker from WWE, that was as dramatic as his main event fight against Jared Cannonier got in a snoozefest that had punters running for the doors.

Make no mistake, the bout was a walkover. Adesanya just needed to use his trademark stylish moves to evade and strike enough blows to secure victory against an opponent who was just trying to survive.

Adesanya tried to pump some excitement into the bout after the event, saying his opponent had made life challenging.

‘They had an excellent game plan, he said.

Dodge, duck, dip, dive and snore. The evasive strategies of both fighters had crowds booing and heading for the exits at T-Mobile Arena

‘It was really hard to get my follow-ups going, my second-phases going, because they had a good game plan.’

The crowd never bought it, though, with footage showing a long line of people heading for the exit while the ones who remained booed the ‘mundane’ action.

It could prove problematic for the UFC, with fans at home switching off as well and swearing to never purchase another card with Adesanya as the main attraction.

‘UFC might begin to have a problem on its hands. One of the best fighters in the ENTIRE world somehow keeps putting on underwhelming performances,’ US sports journalist Rory Robinson tweeted.

‘First, it was just for casual fans, but even hardcores are starting to yawn at Adesanya.

‘I don’t have an issue with Adesanya’s performances but I definitely don’t make up the majority.

‘The majority is TIRED bro. THEY TIRED and LOUD about it. I’m reading it all over the place, we can’t deny it anymore.’

Adesanya had little sympathy for his detractors, though.

‘F*** them,’ he said.

‘They’ve been here since 3pm, they’re all drunk, they don’t know what real fighting is. I’ve said this, the greats, they all get to this point.’
