Kevin Holland’s bid to end a two-fight losing streak ended in bizarre circumstances as the UFC star’s middleweight clash with Kyle Daukaus was ruled a no contest due to an accidental head clash.
Holland, 28, met Daukaus, 28, in the co-main event for UFC Vegas 38, having recently suffered defeat to Marvin Vettori, while Daukaus also entered Saturday night’s contest in need of a bounce back after his loss to Phil Hawes.
After a back and forth opening to the first round, the duo clashed heads which saw Holland fall to the floor, seemingly knocked out. The fight continued and Daukaus eventually submitted his rival with a rear naked choke.

The American, 28, was sent to the canvas after he clashed heads with Daukaus on Saturday
However, with the benefit of television replays, it was determined that the fight would be ruled a no contest, such was the significance of the head collision in leading to the finish.
Holland revealed that he has no recollection of the collision, and that he wants to run it back with Daukaus after the controversial ending.
‘I don’t remember anything,’ Holland said via MMAJunkie. ‘I felt myself hit the ground and all the sudden I felt him on my back. So whatever happened in between that, that’s just goodwill and God-given.

‘I want to run it back, I want to run it back right now. I want to run it back with anyone that’s gotten the better of me, so yeah, I want to run it back.’ Holland said.
‘I’m that guy. If he wants to go somewhere else, that’s because he felt the head-butt was the best thing that could’ve happened to him.
‘I got respect for Kyle, Chris and the Daukaus family, but the fight game is the fight game and I don’t feel like it’s over.’
Elsewhere, Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker failed to deliver fireworks in the main event, with Santos earning a unanimous decision victory following a tactical five-round affair.
