UFC star Andrea Lee defends husband over swastika tattoo

UFC fighter Andrea ‘KGB’ Lee has punched back at her critics after inadvertently revealing her husband’s swastika tattoo in a vacation photo.

Lee, 29, posted the photo of herself an husband Donny Aaron enjoying a day at the lake on Twitter and Instagram on Friday, not realizing that that the swastika on Aaron’s forearm was visible.

Critics swarmed in horror, blasting Lee and Aaron as racists and Nazis, before Lee realized what had happened and deleted the photos.

‘I’m not a Nazi, that’s just dumb, I’m KGB,’ Lee, who is from Texas, wrote tongue-in-cheek on Instagram, referencing the MMA nickname that Aaron gave her when he was her coach because he thought she looked Russian.

It another since-deleted response on Twitter later Friday, Lee wrote: ‘Neither one of us are racists, we have an Asian & a black guy that live with us! Oh my gosh guys, it’s a tattoo he got when he was in prison, get over yourselves.

‘He covers them up all the time and & we happen to have a lake day and it makes an appearance. Sensitive a** mofos’.

Lee apologized for her flippant response in a statement on Sunday, saying that her comments ‘were meant to just defend my husband not his tattoo.’

‘I never meant to make light of the situation, the history of the symbol or dismiss anyone that was offended,’ Lee said.

On Sunday, Aaron issued his own much lengthier statement, apologizing to the public, his family, UFC and his wife’s sponsors.

He said the swastika was a prison tattoo that was about 20 years old and represented a dark time in his life, but not his current views.

‘My body is covered in tattoos that tell the story of where I have been, what I have gone through, and what I’ve overcome,’ Aaron wrote.

‘These “scars” tell my history which included a dark time when I was imprisoned. However, they do not accurately represent who I am today as a person, my personal belief system and the respect I have for all races and religions,’ he continued.

Many deplored Aaron for not having the offensive tattoo covered up or removed. But Aaron said that wasn’t possible, writing without further explanation, ‘I’ve explored both avenues and unfortunately neither is an option for me.’

He said that it had been a careless mistake to expose the tattoo and promised it would never be seen in public again.

Aaron went on to defend his wife, saying ‘When Andrea and I met I had already begun to reinvent my life and if she’d seen any racist behavior or attitude she’d never have given me the time of day.’

‘Please don’t let your hatred for me bleed into hatred towards Andrea,’ he continued.

Lee is the No. 12 worldwide ranked female flyweight. In her last fight, she won a unanimous points decision over Veronica Macedo at a UFC Fight Night on May 19.

After the controversy, Lee posted a new version of the controversial vacation photo with Aaron’s tattoo cropped out.

‘Still had a great day at the lake with my fam and certainly enjoyed the jet skis,’ she wrote.
