Ukrainian refugee who was dumped by her British lover flies BACK to war-torn country

The Ukrainian refugee dumped by her British lover after he left his partner and two children for her flew back to the war-torn country tonight.

Sofiia Karkadym, 22, still tearful after her break-up with security guard Tony Garnett, boarded a plane home from Manchester Airport. She is travelling to Ukraine via Poland.

Ms Karkadym was seen off at the airport by Mr Garnett, 30, who ended their four-month relationship after accusing her of getting repeatedly drunk and stabbing a kitchen wall with a knife at the rented home in Bradford, West Yorks.

She said she was still hopeful that Mr Garnett might change his mind right up until the moment she boarded the flight.

In the early stages of their fling, the pair were blissfully happy and even talked about marriage and spending the rest of their lives together. But the romance turned cold after a series of arguments which he said were caused by her drinking strong beer and throwing temper tantrums. Mr Garnett is pictured at the airport on Monday

Ms Karkadym told MailOnline at the airport: ‘I have booked a return ticket because it was only a few pounds more than a single ticket.

‘I can only come back if Tony changes his mind which I’m still hoping he will.

‘There is no other man for me and I’ve asked him not to meet any other girls if he can help it because we might still be able to work it out. We can talk in the future.

‘I love Tony more than words can tell you. I have told him that I am sorry that I have hurt him too. ‘

She added: ‘I am sorry for everything that’s happened and only understand now how much Tony has done for me.

‘I’m very sorry for everything that has happened. I wish I could change his mind.’

She said she was, however, looking forward to seeing her family again, particularly her grandmother who was celebrating her birthday.

‘I have bought her a gift and can’t wait to hug her.’

The now ex-lovers struck up an affair 10 days after she arrived at the home of Mr Garnett and his partner Lorna Garnett. Ms Karkadym had fled the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Garnett and Ms Karkadym admitted that they were attracted to each other and moved out of the family home and in with his parents before finding a place to rent.

Ms Karkadym admitted that she found the fact difficult that he could not have more children (he has had a vasectomy) and that he already had two kids with his ex-partner, who he regularly talked fondly about.

‘That’s fine with me. I don’t have an issue with that as long as she doesn’t come near me again.

‘She’s been arrested twice at my house and turned up late at night as well. The other night she even turned up at a friends’ house where I was having dinner and banged on the door.

‘I still don’t know how she found out I was there. But I just had to apologise to my friend and take her back to her hotel where the police had put her.

‘I’ve reminded her that if she gets arrested again and gets a criminal record in the UK, she might not be allowed back into the country at all.

‘She has to learn to understand the rules of the law as well as the rules of a break-up. We are over.

‘It sounds cold I know. But I have to get on with my life.

‘I have to be allowed to see my daughters again as I am the subject of a non-molestation order which I’m hoping will get lifted on Thursday.

‘These last five months since I left Lorna and the kids have been absolutely nutty, a real rollercoaster.

Mr Garnett, pictured with Ms Karkadym, said he had no intention of beginning a new relationship soon

He continued: ‘At one stage I thought I was going to marry Sofiia, but it started to go wrong with her heavy-drinking and I think subconsciously she was missing her family too.

‘I know they miss her. Her mother has told me. I am hoping that she will be safe over there.

‘If she comes back and begins a new relationship with somebody, that will be fine by me.

‘But she must give up the hope that we are going to be a couple again. It’s just not going to happen.’

Mr Garnett, who is heavily tattooed including a heart on his right cheek, said he had been inundated with offers of sex and love from women through his Instagram account.

He added: ‘People might see me as some uncaring sort of b*****d, but I am far from it.

‘I have tried to help her through this break up. Sometimes she has been really easy to talk to, on other times she’s been really hell.

‘There’s no in-between with her. There doesn’t seem to be a filter there. I am just thanking God that she’s on that plane and I don’t have to have my phone pinging at all hours or her just turning up.’

Mr Garnett said he had no intention of beginning a new relationship soon.

He added: ‘I haven’t been able to sleep with myself, let alone sleep with anybody else. I just need some me time to get to be with my daughters again. I really miss them. They were one of the reasons that Sofiia and I fell out. She didn’t like me talking about them. But they come before everything.’
