  • The PSG striker limped off recently in a Ligue 1 victory over Bordeaux
  • PSG will take to Old Trafford without Neymar and play-maker Marco Verratti
  • Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United are yet to lose a single game from 11 played

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost ahead of their crunch Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, with talisman Edinson Cavani set to sit out through injury.

The reigning French champions are already without the world’s most expensive player Neymar, who is battling for fitness after a re-occurrence of a foot injury which plagued him last season.

Cavani may now increase the woes of PSG, after recently picking up a thigh injury during a recent Ligue 1 clash with Bordeaux.

The Uruguayan scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in PSG’s victory, but limped off in pain during the latter stages.

‘We don’t have good news for Edi. My feeling is that it will be very difficult for him to play,’ said manager Thomas Tuchel after the tie. ‘The club will wait a little longer, but in my opinion the news will not be good. Hope is very, very small.’

Tuchel had kept the likes of Leandro Paredes and Kylian Mbappe in reserve ahead of the last-16 first leg at Old Trafford.

Injuries are mounting for the Parisians, who will also likely be without play-maker Marco Verratti. Speaking about the situation of his current XI, Tuchel admitted he may need to revert to a different game plan.

‘There are lots of plan Bs now,’ Tuchel told reporters following the Bordeaux win. ‘Without Ney [Neymar], maybe without Marco, maybe without Edi [Cavani], now we need a plan D.

‘I can’t think about so many different plans in advance. We have to analyse Manchester United, we have to stay calm and confident.

‘If two or three key players are not here, it’s our duty to find solutions. It’s very difficult if we play with our best team, it’s a big challenge. If we are missing lots of key players, it’s an even bigger challenge, but we will be ready on Tuesday, I think.’
