A man accused of murdering a University of Utah student has been arrested after a massive one day manhunt.

Austin Boutain, 24, was taken into custody at a public library in downtown Salt Lake City on Tuesday following an overnight manhunt in foothills near the university campus.

He was wanted over the shooting death of Chinese student ChenWei Guo who was found shot dead in his car near Red Butte Canyon in what police believe was a failed carjacking attempt.

Boutain had manage to evade police on Monday night by apparently slipping past a containment line after the killing.

Police said Boutain and his wife, Kathleen Boutain, 23, were also wanted for a homicide committed last week in Golden, Colorado.

Boutain had been camping in the foothills with his wife for at least a few days after the Colorado slaying, according to authorities.

Kathleen was being treated for minor injuries and was in jail on unrelated charges following her arrest on Monday night.

Classes were canceled on Tuesday at the university where the victim’s peers remembered him as a smart, bright and caring person who loved to tell jokes.

The victim, ChenWei Guo, was a pre-computer science student and peer adviser at the school’s International Student and Scholar Services Office.

Guo, who was a member of the Mormon church, was also an interpreter and technology supporter at the Salt Lake City-based church.

His friend Rachel Tam told the Associated Press that Guo would always speak in a moving and powerful way about his beliefs.

She said Guo loved to dance and wowed his friends on the dance floor in August at a church event for young, unmarried Chinese members of the church.

Tam says Guo was at the center of the dance floor busting out hip hop moves and was also a talented swing and ballroom dancer.

A campus memorial in his honor was being organized for Tuesday night.
