An assistant hockey coach from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas was shot in the chest when a gunman opened fire in the deadly shooting massacre on Sunday night.

Nick Robone, 28, was among the 22,000 in the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when the gunman started shooting from the Mandalay Bay Hotel across the street.

Robone underwent surgery early Monday morning to remove the bullet from his chest.

‘The bullet missed his lung, but it is bruised badly,’ UNLV said.

‘He’s in the ICU and will remain in the hospital for the near future. He is expected to make a full recovery.’

Robone was at the festival with his paramedic brother Anthony, as well as their friends and girlfriends when the horror unfolded.

The group dropped to the ground when the bullets started flying, but Nick was struck, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Anthony noticed blood coming from his brother’s mouth and they managed to drag him close to some police cars where he was able to stabilize him until he could be rushed to hospital.

Nick was among the 527 injured when the 64-year-old gunman, Stephen Paddock, opened fire at 10.08pm on Sunday. At least 59 people have died so far from the shooting massacre.

It took police one hour and 12 minutes to locate Paddock in his hotel room on the 32nd floor after they received the first 911 call.

Authorities say Paddock, who had been holed up in the room for several days, killed himself before officers breached the room at 11.20pm. Officers found him among an ‘arsenal’ of weapons and ammunition, including at least 10 guns.
