Australians stocking up on gifts over the peak Christmas shopping period have been warned not to buy several products which could present deadly hazards.
The government’s product safety regulator run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a number of product recalls for items that could end up under the tree over the festive season and land their owners in hospital.
Anyone who has already bought any of the items should stop using them immediately and return them to their place of purchase for a refund, the ACCC said.
Jishaku: The Game of Magnetic Action
The safety regulator said this board game does not comply with the permanent ban on small high-powered magnets.
‘There is a permanent ban on separate or loose small high-powered magnets that have a flux index greater than 50 (kG)2 mm2 that are used in certain toys or jewellery,’ the regulator said.
‘If children swallow multiple magnets, they can stick together in the intestine or digestive tissue leading to serious internal injuries or death. They are also a choking risk.’
The product is sold by Booktopia who is also running the recall.
Owners should stop using these products immediately, keep them out of reach of children and contact Booktopia customer support for a full refund and further instructions.
