US-made Track-N-Go system turns pick-ups into snowmobiles

Exploring snow-covered wildernesses has never been easier – thanks to remarkable drive-on tracks.

The U.S-made Track-N-Go ‘wheel driven track system’ can be installed in as little as five minutes, according to the makers.

Amazing footage shows just how easy the system is to use, with pick-up trucks driving onto the tracks and off again in the blink of an eye – then speeding away across snowy landscapes.

The manufacturer’s website says: ‘The average time to install the four tracks is 15 minutes. Some can install them in five minutes, others will do it in 25 minutes. The same time is expected to remove them.’

Once fitted, incredibly tricky terrain can be tackled, including huge snow drifts.

The manufacturer claims that the system can even be used on light mud, gravel and on sand.

Drivers, however, will need to be careful with the accelerator pedal, because the maximum recommended speed on roads or hard-packed snow is 40mph and in fluffier, deeper snow, 20mph

But that’s still fairly nippy.

Grip, meanwhile, is apparently very good.

The Track N Go website says: ‘The track profile has been through several testings and studies to be effective in the snow but also efficient on the asphalt road.

‘The rubber track may be studded for ice in areas already provided on the track.’

The ride is smooth, too, because it’s the tyres that absorb the bumps.

The system is obviously useful for adventurers wanting to head into snow-covered back country, but it’s also a boon for emergency services and ski resort officials.

For example, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin, recently bought two sets of Track-N-Go equipment for possible search and rescue situations.
