US mother branded ‘vile and disgusting’ after posing with a dead stag during Scotland hunting trip

An American tourist has faced a backlash after posting pictures of her face smeared with blood during a hunting trip to Scotland.

Rebecca Wolfe Spradley from Florida was branded ‘vile and disgusting’ after sharing photographs from the Highlands visit in December.

Pictures show her with what appears to be animal blood smeared across her face, as well as her stalking and smiling next to a dead stag.

It comes after American TV presenter Larysa Switlyk was also slammed for her hunting holiday to the Isle of Islay in 2018.

A petition has now been launched to ban Mrs Wolfe Spradley from returning to Scotland.

The hunter, who is in her 30s, and husband Brannon are keen shooters and she regularly posts online about her kills.

She shared the photos with the caption: ‘As many of you know, I just returned home from the Highlands of Scotland after an unimaginably wonderful experience hunting Highland stag.

‘Since my return, I have had so many of you reach out to me about booking a Stag hunt in the highlands of Scotland and I’m trying to go through all my messages to respond with a price list!

‘I don’t want to miss anyone so if your interested in booking your own trip of lifetime, reach out to me as I’m excited to announce I have become a US booking agent for @directsportinglets.

‘Brannon and I plan to return to the highlands next October and we would love to have you join us!’

Another wrote: ‘This is horrible. You’re not welcome here in Scotland to hunt our beautiful wildlife. They should be protected from people like you.’

A man put: ‘Can’t wait for next October when you are over. I’m sure there will be plenty of locals wanting to give you a warm welcome.’

Direct Sporting Lets has been contacted for comment.

The company organises high quality hunting and fishing trips in the Highlands of Scotland, according to its Facebook page.

It says: ‘DSL will organise your full hunting or fishing package. This can be everything from transport hire which can be mini bus, car, or 4×4 hire.

‘Accommodation which can be from Luxury Castles, high standard Hotels or cosy country B&B’s.

‘The hunting we can offer from Red and Sika Stag stalking, Roe and Fallow Buck stalking.’

The Scottish Government website says: ‘Deer can be taken during daylight hours by those with permission and, at night, by those with both permission and the appropriate authorisation from Scottish Natural Heritage.’

Many who support hunting argue it is an effective means of culling the deer population – which has doubled in Scotland in the last 50 years.

Scottish Gamekeepers say country sports are worth around £350million to the country’s economy.

The ‘world-renowned hunter’ from Sarasota, Florida, was accused of ‘trophy hunting’ wild animals on the island of Islay, Scotland in September 2018 after she posed for a series of Instagram photos during the hunt.

While she was pictured with slain goats, stags and sheep on Islay, hunting animals in season is not illegal in Scotland and she was facing a charge under Section 11a of the Firearms Act, which relates to how you can use borrowed shotguns legally.

In November that year, Ms Switlyk also caused controversy after she was pictured in Norfolk posing next to a sheep she had just killed and holding up a blood-covered sex toy.

Ms Switlyk drew intense criticism from politicians and celebrities after posting the photos – although many mocked her for posing so proudly with a sheep.

BBC radio presenter Nicky Campbell branded her: ‘A twisted sicko’.
