Vegan woman sparks debate online after discovering her mother frying bacon in her house

Vegan brands her own mother ‘disrespectful’ for frying bacon in her house – but not everyone has sympathy for her

  • A woman who subscribes to a vegan lifestyle has her mother staying over
  • She discovered her mother was frying bacon in the kitchen one morning at home
  • The anonymous plant-based follower shared a post on Facebook about it
  • There were a range of responses from fellow vegans, with some saying ‘be nice’

A vegan woman has sparked an online debate after discovering her mother was frying bacon in her house, but not everyone reacted sympathetically to the issue.

The Australian woman, who posted about the ‘disrespectful’ action on social media, was quick to point out how ‘p***ed off’ the situation made her.

‘Mother is staying with me and currently frying bacon in my kitchen. I feel so mad and riled up. Please send love and sympathy,’ the Queensland-based woman said.

As a vegan she refuses to eat any animal-based products – including bacon, honey and cheese – because of the environment and the creatures who live on it.

Fellow vegans reacted with outrage suggesting that she tell her mother to leave the house after the bacon was cooked.

‘It’s your house. Ask your mother to stop doing that as it goes against your values. Ask her to respect those values by not cooking animal flesh in your house,’ one person said.

‘Just because she’s your mother does not entitle her to do whatever she pleases. You are an adult, you need to set boundaries. Just have an honest conversation with her. Hopefully she’ll come around.’

‘I would have said if she wanted to stay with me there should be no bacon… I’d be puking from the smell,’ said another.

A third added: ‘I’d be pretty p***ed off too to be honest. In my house it means I’d have to throw the fry pan away, and I’d be furious with cross contamination.

‘I’m sorry she has done it, and I hope you’re able to have an adult conversation as to why you don’t like it and I hope she respects your wishes.’

‘Have a conversation with her? And move on. It’s not worth feeling upset over something like that,’ one person said.

‘What’s your mother meant to eat and how is she meant to cook?’ said another.

It’s not known whether the woman had a chat with her mother about kitchen etiquette in her house or whether she just stood by idly and let it happen.
