Vernon Kay was crowned champion of the one-of-a-kind special of The Masked Singer: I’m A Celebrity special on Sunday night.

The broadcaster, 48, shocked viewers as well judges, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan after impressing with his vocal talents before he was unmasked as Koala.

He revealed that his appearance on the show was a total secret and even his wife Strictly’s Tess Daly, 53, had ‘no idea’.

After Davina asked if he’d told his family, including his two daughter Phoebe, 18, and Amber, 13, he said: ‘No, they’re watching this as we’re doing this’.

Vernon, who appeared in the ITV camp back in 2020, joked to host Joel Dommett he had lost ‘five stone’ after spending the day disguised in the enormous koala costume.

He said: ‘You know what’s weird, being in this costume all day. I’ve lost more weight in this than I did on I’m A Celebrity. I think I lost five stone.’ 

Gushing about his impressive vocals judge Jonathan Ross said: ‘Who knew you couldn’t sing’.

While Rita Ora bemoaned at not guessing his identity: ‘ We’re so stupid’.

Meanwhile Alison Hammond was disguised as Witchetty Grub and performed confidently Heather Small’s Moving On Up.

She completely shocked the judging panel as she removed her large mask leaving Davina hitting her head with frustration, she said: ‘Reality TV show duh’. 

Alison told host Joel Dommett: ‘People actually forget I was on I’m A Celebrity because I arrived half way through the show.

‘I’m a million percent not a singer though. Hardest thing for me was not laughing and no I didn’t choice to be a Witchetty Grub, it chose me’,

However the judges strongly disagreed: ‘You can really sing’, said Jonathan and Rita as they all stood out of their seats stunned by her impressive performance’.
