Veteran ABC journalist Leigh Sales was left visibly shaken after a tub of yoghurt was hurled at her as she spoke about her childbirth complications at a public event.
The 7.30 presenter was midway through her speech at the State Library of Western Australia in Perth on Sunday when the incident unfolded.
Police said Sales ‘took evasive action’ when a 49-year-old man threw the 200g blueberry yoghurt tub, which sprayed her legs and splattered across the stage.
Sales had been telling the audience about a medical emergency that threatened her life – and that of her unborn son – when the tub was hurled.

The alleged perpetrator was filmed shouting incoherently as he was swiftly whisked away by security.
‘Wow. Thank you very much to our security people for dealing with that. Thank you,’ Sales said.
She continued with her speech.
‘I am fine. I am quiet happy to go on. If everyone else is alright, I am happy to go on,’ she said as the audience applauded.
She was speaking about her 25-year journalism journey and her most memorable stories – from cyclones and political upheavals to sporting scandals and crime.
Sales said after the December 2014 Lindt cafe siege, where a gunman held 10 customers and eight employees hostage for 16 hours, she would stay awake at night thinking about the people who lost their lives.
‘I found it hard to contemplate that the questions those tragedy raise,’ she said.
‘Why them, why not not me… it has to be my turn at some stage… when it going to be my turn when it’s going to happen to me.’
The alleged yoghurt thrower has been charged with common assault over the incident.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on August 27.
