Vicky McClure smashes car window and steals bag as grieving Without Sin character Stella

The first scenes for Vicky McClure’s new thriller Without Sin have been revealed as she was seen smashing a car window and stealing a bag on the set.

The Line Of Duty actress, 38, known for playing DI Kate Fleming in the BBC drama, was seen on the set of the new ITV miniseries in her native Nottingham last week.

Vicky found herself faking a criminal activity as she filmed her scene as grieving Uber driver Stella Tomlinson who lost her daughter Maisy, 14, three years earlier.

Screen star Vicky looked tense as Stella as she broke into a red Volkswagen Golf before driving off in a grey taxi.

Vicky could be seen wearing a long grey coat and wooly hat as filming took place on a dark night in the city.

Without Sin, which is set for release later this year, is a four-part psychological thriller which tells the story of grieving mother Stella as she explores a developing relationship with the man she believes murdered her daughter.

Maisy was found dead at the family home as a hooded Charles Stone stood over her.

Actor Johnny Harris, 48, who appeared recently in BBC drama The Salisbury Poisonings, will lead alongside Vicky as Charles.

Without Sin is written by Nottingham-born Frances Poletti and it will see Vicky and Charles reunited on-screen for the first time since 2010 Channel 4 drama This Is England ’86.

The deep grief of losing her daughter has created difficulties in Vicky’s character Stella’s life and she chooses to live by night as an Uber driver.

Maisy’s parents are contacted by Restorative Justice and they reunited to listen to tapes recorded by their daughter’s killer as they believe he wants to apologise for Maisy’s death.

Stella returns to where she grew up in the Millfields estate to visit her mother Jessie and best friend Remy in a bid to find stability before visiting Charles in prison but she is not prepared for what he has to say.

ITV head of drama Polly Hill said of the series: ‘Without Sin is a brilliantly compelling story while carefully dealing with a mother’s grief at the loss of her daughter. It’s hard to believe this is Frances’ first drama series commission. 

‘Vicky and Johnny as Stella and Charles will be addictive viewing. I’m delighted to be working with BYO Films and Left Bank Pictures to bring this to ITV (this) year.’
