A man suffered horrific injuries after his attacker struck him with a machete before escaping to the roof of an abandoned building in a 48-hour stand-off with police.
Nigel Davies, 57, was left bloodied and bruised with severe facial wounds after he was attacked in the street in Tredegar, south Wales, on Tuesday.
After allegedly driving a car into a house and onto a pavement towards a woman and her child, the suspect fled to an empty British Legion building on a nearby industrial estate.
He climbed onto the roof where he stayed for 48 hours as armed police desperately tried to coax him down.
It was only at 7am today that officers convinced him and arrested him at the scene.
They were pictured handing him a Chinese takeaway and a packet of cigarettes in a bid to calm him down.

Crowds gathered as around 25 police officers and members of the fire brigade and ambulance service worked to contain the situation.
An eye-witness at the scene of the siege said yesterday: ‘The police are saying there is no danger to the public.
‘But you can see from the picture that the victim was viciously assaulted with a weapon.’
Pictures of the victim’s injuries were circulated on social media yesterday.
Gwent Police confirmed armed police were deployed after reports of a man armed with a machete was holed up inside the Grade II-listed building that used to house the Tredegar Iron Company worker’s shop on Tuesday.
Officers used riot shields to protect themselves when the man allegedly started throwing chunks of masonry at the them.

He is believed to have attacked Mr Davies after ramming his car into a house and onto a pavement where a woman and her young child were walking at around 8.45am on Tuesday.
A force spokesman said: ‘The situation is linked to several incidents in the area.
‘The first report came to us as a road traffic collision at 8.45am on Tuesday morning.’
It is believed the suspect drove a car into a house, then mounted a pavement close to where a woman was walking with children.
He ran into the derelict building after attacking Mr Davies with his weapon.
Witnesses said police arrived with bolt cutters to get through a security fence but they decided to back off to allow the man time to cool down.
Another eye-witness said: ‘The police have been hesitant about going in because of the state of the building.
‘It is quite tense here and all the emergency services are standing by.’
But a Gwent Police spokesman said the man was arrested at 7am today and is helping with inquiries. He has not yet been charged.
