Victoria Beckham on crutches after mystery injury

Victoria Beckham stepped out with a foot brace on Friday, after a recent skiing holiday with her family in Whistler, Canada.

The fashion designer, 43, was pictured hobbling on crutches and wearing a large foot brace as she departed a London’s Guildhall on Friday morning – though that didn’t deter the style icon from wearing her beloved heels.

However, some fans speculated that rather than a skiing accident, it was likely that Victoria had had an operation on one of her painful bunions after saying years ago that she would have to have the surgery at some point.

Zig-a-zig-arghhh! Victoria Beckham hobbled on crutches and a foot brace after mystery injury on Friday… but fans speculate it’s all down to her painful bunion

The Spice Girl wasn’t wearing a foot brace when she arrived back in London following her recent ski trip and wasn’t pictured on the slopes so an accident there is unlikely.

She told Women’s Wear Daily in 2010: ‘(The attention on my feet) really was embarrassing. I think I’ll have to have the surgery, but I’ve heard it’s the most painful.

A bunion is a bony bump at the base of the big toe joint. This becomes painfully inflamed when shoes rub against it – a problem made worse by high heels which throw the body weight forward.

Victoria had already been advised to have a bunionectomy, which involves the surgeon cutting into the toe joint then re-aligning the toe bone and securing it with screws.

In 2009, a friend has told the Mail: ‘The Beckham household is all about feet at the moment: David is having painkilling injections for bone bruising on his foot, while Victoria is in agony with her misshapen feet.

‘She is suffering from shooting pain from the bunions. Normally, she kicks off her shoes in the house, but she has been out so much recently in high heels that she is really feeling it.’

They added at the time: ‘She has been doing exercises, such as standing on a step and lowering her weight onto one leg, and lying on her back to stretch her legs.’

‘Victoria calls her feet “the bane of my life”, but she is worried about having the operation because she fears they will compromise her ability to wear heels and ruin her stylish look,’ says her friend.

‘She puts up with the pain, but the doctor has told her she seriously needs to consider a bunionectomy or ditch the heels for a few months to let the inflammation calm down. She has not got that long to decide what to do.’

Another source told Closer a year later: ‘It’s a major operation and Vic’s said she’s having sleepless nights at the thought of it.

‘She’s even been breaking out into a panic from the stress of contemplating such painful surgery. But she knows there’s no way out, so it’s a matter of when.’

Victoria is believed to wear corrective insoles in some shoes.

Prior to acknowledging her foot troubles, Beckham famously said: ‘I can’t concentrate in flats. I could go to the gym if I wore flats. I’d love to go to the gym but I just can’t get my head around the footwear. I beyond hate ballerina flats. I can’t walk in them.

‘Unless they’re on a ballet dancer doing ballet, I just don’t get it. I love heels.’

She also proved she wasn’t going to let an injury stand in the way of her fashionista status as she retained her chic sense of style in a roll neck jumper and tailored black trousers.

Despite everything, it looked as though it was business as normal for the fashion mogul, who was flanked by her sizeable entourage as she stepped out in the British capital.

Change of heart? Until now it was believed that Victoria had avoided the slopes during her family holiday, instead spending quality time with her parents Jackie and Tony, who joined them on their winter break, on flatter surfaces

Making sure she was dressed the part for her visit, the singer-turned-designer rocked a form-fitting navy roll neck, a staple in her fashion-forward wardrobe, and black, ankle-grazer trousers.

Though it was her choice of kitten heel that would have had most people talking, as the star shunned a comfortable trainer in favour of the stylish footwear.

MailOnline has contacted Victoria’s representative declined to comment.

Last week, David and three of the couple’s four children were snapped having a whale of a time on the slopes.

The former footballer, 42, appeared to be keeping a particularly careful watch on their youngest child Harper, as her older brothers Romeo, 15, and Cruz, 13, went wild on their snowboards.

But Harper didn’t seem as though she was in need of the extra supervision as the fearless six-year-old whizzed down the slopes alongside her siblings.

David revealed that she’s taken after her big brothers with her sports skills, with David previously saying that Harper came over to him and said: ‘Daddy, I would like to maybe play football.’

Speaking in a Facebook live, David said: ‘I was like, “Oh my goodness, that’s amazing!”‘

‘Having children is the most special thing in the world,’ he gushed. ‘You don’t love any of them more than any of the others. It’s just different, you know. The boys are very protective over [Harper] and, obviously, so am I.’
