Victoria Beckham rules out gig as American Idol judge

She made a guest appearance as a judge on American Idol for a single episode back in 2009, as she filled in for then-recently departed founding star Paula Abdul.

But Victoria Beckham has insisted that she would never take on the task of assessing hopefuls on a permanent basis on the Simon Cowell-fronted show – which is run by her manager Simon Fuller – as she ‘cannot bear’ to watch herself on TV.

When asked if she had plans to join the show, the 43-year-old former Spice Girl is quoting by the Daily Star as responding: ‘No, no I wouldn’t. Not at all. I cannot bear watching myself back and I don’t want to hear myself talking. It is not for me.’

And while she’s become known for her steely gaze, the singer-turned-designer insisted she’s a ‘very happy’ person, whose image betrays her demeanour.

The mother-of-four, married to David Beckham, said: ‘I am not quite as grumpy as I look. I’m very, very lucky to have the job that I have, the family that I have.’

Victoria, who showcased her hotly-anticipated SS18 runway show during New York Fashion Week on Sunday, recently gave an insight into her ‘guilty pleasures’ during an interview for Selfridges with presenter Laura Jackson.

Victoria admitted during the quick-fire round that she loves watching ‘BBC dramas’ – but was challenged by Laura, who felt that chocolate would be more ‘guilty’.

As Laura asked: ‘What about a Chomp? Or a Curly Wurly?’ Victoria grinned and asked baffled: ‘Do they still make Curly Wurlys?’

As Laura insisted they do, she conceded smiling that Chomp chocolate bars are her naughty vice.

Victoria also revealed that her perfect Sunday in would be ‘a day at home with David and the kids’ and cheekily added that her favourite past-time is ‘drinking wine’.

And touching on her past as a Spice Girl, the mother also spoke about the girl band’s make-up fails – admitting that they looked like ‘five men in drag’ at one American Music Awards appearance.

She also joked hat she only listens to Spice Girls songs and divulged that their hit ‘Holler’ is perfect for getting her in the mood for a night out.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s glittering SS18 show was watched by husband David on the front row, as well as their eldest son Brooklyn, 18, who has recently moved to NYC to study at Parsons School of Art and Design.

Proud of the matriarch’s hard-work, Brooklyn shared a number of snaps from behind-the-scenes with his dad, including a handsome selfie of the pair.

While David gushed over his wife’s creative vision and his pride for his offspring, who has made the move across the pond.

In a charming Instagram post, the retired footballer wrote: ‘Great show today very proud to be in NYC with this handsome young man @victoriabeckham’.

Victoria’s runway show focused on pastel colours with clean lines with pops of vibrant gingham print.

Although constantly wowing the style brigade, she admitted she finds it hard to pick an outfit for herself during Fashion Week.

The fashion designer opted for a classic jeans and a white t-shirt ensemble during her runway show because she didn’t ‘have the time to think’ about her own outfit during the busy time.

Speaking to PEOPLE she said: ‘On the lead up to fashion week you don’t really have the time to think about what you’re wearing because we’ve been so busy this week with the collection and the casting and everything else that goes with putting a big show together.

‘It was just jeans and T-shirts for me this week. I got those [jeans] from a vintage shop. They’re just vintage Levi’s.’

And the Spice Girls band member – who was known as Posh Spice in the girl group – has revealed although she has even been sporting flatter shoes she will never stop wearing high heeled platforms, and will alternate between wearing both styles of footwear depending on the occasion.

‘You really can wear them all day because they’re not too high,’ she said. ‘What’s so funny is that people said that [I stopped wearing heels] because I think like most people I’ll have a day where I want to put a heel on and then I’ll wear trainers if I’m running around after the kids.’

Earlier this month the star gave an insight into how she juggles her working life with being ‘the best wife and mum’ and admitted that she expects a lot of her body during busy times.

Speaking in the Saturday edition of The Times’ LUXX Magazine, Victoria confessed: ‘It’s not easy. I’m a bit of a control freak.

‘I love what I do, and I always want to be the best – whether that’s designing an amazing collection, putting on the best fashion show, creating a make-up collection, being the best mum, the best wife.’

She admitted that she relies heavily on her assistant, with whom she insists she has ‘never had words’.
