Victoria Beckham sports sophisticated black trouser suit for appearance at her flagship store

High fashion merged with fine art as Victoria Beckham prepared to house a selection of historic paintings at her flagship boutique in London on Monday evening.

The designer joined a host of guests at the Dover Street venue, which will temporarily house 16 Old Master portraits – works developed between the 13th and 19th centuries – before their auction on July 4.

Victoria, 44, looked typically subdued in a sophisticated black trouser suit comprised of loose fitting double-breasted tuxedo jacket and pencil thin trousers as she made her way inside.

Matching stiletto heels rounded off the ensemble, while her make-up was tastefully applied from a natural colour palette.

While husband David did not attend – the retired footballer is currently fulfilling promotional commitments in the Far East – Victoria had good company in the form of her supportive parents, Anthony and Jacqueline.

The family occupied the same car as they pulled up outside the fashion designer’s store in the heart of Mayfair.

Victoria has teamed up with Sotheby’s to temporarily host a selection of 16 portraits at the flagship store of her eponymous label, and she’s revealed that art has long been a passion for her and David.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, she said: ‘David and I loved collecting contemporary art for quite some time, but Old Masters is really something new for me, and something I don’t know an enormous amount about. I’m really enjoying learning about it. It’s been quite incredible.’

Describing the unprecedented collaboration with upscale auction house Sotheby’s as a ‘dream come true’, the mother-of-four also went on to reveal that she and her 43-year-old husband have now become students of the classic works.

‘Art is something we’re enjoying learning about together, and every piece means something personal to us, so it would be really hard to pick a favourite,’ she said.’

However, Victoria – whose contemporary art collection with David is said to include works by Tracey Emin, Julian Schnabel, Damien Hirst and Sam Taylor-Johnson – did admit that she had her eye on one of the pricey canvas paintings.
