A jailhouse love triangle has ended in extreme violence after a prisoner allegedly bit his rival’s ear clean off in a behind-bars brawl.

The incident unfolded at the maximum-security Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall, about 20km from Melbourne’s CBD, on Friday morning.

The accused allegedly unleashed on his victim after discovering his partner was in a relationship with him.

The injured prisoner underwent surgery to have his ear sewn back.

‘The reason for the confrontation is that the prisoner found out the other prisoner had his partner on his phone list,’ a prisoner told Herald Sun.

‘Must be a nice girl.’

A Corrections Victoria spokesman said: ‘A prisoner was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following an altercation with another prisoner at the Metropolitan Remand Centre on Friday morning.’

Police are investigating the incident.
