A koala named Luther has been showered with love by a rainbow lorikeet in a heartwarming exchange captured on camera.

The two Australian animals shared the tender moment at Mosswood Wildlife Sanctuary in Koroit in south west Victoria on Thursday.

Mosswood Wildlife later uploaded a series of photos, showing the moment the parrot approached the marsupial and pecked him on the nose.

‘The rainbow lorikeet was all about the love today. Not sure if Luther (the koala) enjoyed,’ they captioned the post.

Next, Luther was ‘kissed’ by the lorikeet, who appears to have opened his beak and stretched his tongue to lick the koala’s nostril.

Luther closed his eyes at one point, indicating he may not have been a fan of the stickybeak bird.

A young male, Luther has been in the care of Mosswood Wildlife since at least December last year.

The lorikeet appears to have just been a visitor to the wildlife sanctuary.

Rainbow lorikeets are a species of parrot common along Australia’s eastern seaboard from northern Queensland to South Australia.

They have also been introduced to Perth, Tasmania, Auckland, and Hong Kong.
