A family’s school holiday break was abruptly interrupted when a large, wild animal wandered into their townhouse and created a bloody mess.
Alexander Hill was taken by surprise after wrapping up a work meeting from his Alphington house in north-west Melbourne when he realised there was a wild deer downstairs.
Mr Hill said that he found out after seeing half a dozen missed calls and texts from his neighbours alerting him to the potentially dangerous situation.
Calls where then made to Parks Victoria and the police to rescue Mr Hill and his family, who were now hostages in their own home.

‘Today’s text was “STAG IN THE HOUSE! BLOOD EVERYWHERE!”‘, Mr Hill wrote online
Mr Hill peeked down his staircase for any sight of the male deer, which he filmed on his phone and via a security camera he had installed on the first floor.
‘Today’s text was “STAG IN THE HOUSE! BLOOD EVERYWHERE!”‘, Mr Hill later posted online.
‘The stag saw its reflection and decided to rush the handsome looking guy in the window.
‘Went through the window, the blind fell down and the poor guy ended up stuck in a white box.’
In what ended up being a two-hour ordeal, Mr Hill discovered that ‘not every ranger has a tranquillising dart available’.
As he waited upstairs, his children began noting the foul odour of the beast but ended up handling the situation ‘pretty well’.
‘The kids were saying that it smelled pretty bad, they were upstairs saying it smells terrible,’ Mr Hill told ABC News.
After a long struggle one ranger simply opened the door, hoping the deer would find its own way out.
‘In a few seconds, he was off and out the front door,’ Mr Hill said.
‘He’s jumped probably 20 metres over this fence down by the river and disappeared.’
Though the sight of deer in the city isn’t rare – wild stags are occasionally seen exploring Melbourne’s outer suburban landscape – rangers told Mr Hill that the situation he’d found himself in was strange even for them.
In April this year, one wild stag hurdled a fence in Melbourne’s East Kew before also finding its own way out, this time through a glass pool fence.
The stag had burst through his glass door, knocking down the blinds and trapping itself in the house for two hours

The moment was caught on CCTV footage as the startled stag stumbled besides a luxurious pool before charging the glass gate ahead of it.
‘I was letting some tradies in and suddenly this shadow comes shooting past and the tradie said to me ‘that’s a bloody deer’,’ the homeowner told the Herald Sun at the time.
Another was seen far closer to the CBD in 2021, when onlookers in Fitzroy marveled at the sight of a wild animal so far away from its natural habitat.
At the same time Melbourne was experiencing one of its longest lockdowns, the stag made its way down Smith St – which was already the coolest street in the world.
Unfortunately, Vets for Compassion were eventually called in to assist with the rescue and had to euthanise the deer.
