Melbourne calls in the ARMY to help manage hotel quarantine after an explosion of coronavirus cases

The Victorian Government has called in the army to help manage the state’s outbreak of coronavirus cases. 

Senior sources from the Victorian and federal government confirmed the military had been requested to provide support. 

It is understood the military officials will manage quarantine hotels and assist with emergency response in Melbourne, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Victorian health authorities will meet with defence officials on Wednesday afternoon to finalise details of the military’s deployment. 

Military personnel are expected to assist with emergency management, planning and logistics support across Melbourne.  

There are currently 12 Australian Defence Force personnel involved in planning support in Victoria.

A total of 28 military personnel were assisting with the pandemic response as of Wednesday morning.
