Victoria’s deadly second wave SPREADS to NSW as Gladys Berejiklian considers putting towns into lockdown to control coronavirus outbreak

A Melbourne teenager on holiday with his family in Merimbula, south-east New South Wales has tested positive for coronavirus.

The boy was tested before he left Victoria and the result came back negative.

Upon arriving in NSW, the family was told there had been an error and the boy was positive.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said the family had not come from a Melbourne hotspot.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was considering changing the rules that allowed permits for commuters to cross Victoria-NSW border communities or even locking down the towns to stop people driving elsewhere in NSW.

‘The probability of contagion in New South Wales, given what’s happening in Victoria, is extremely high. The probability that we need to be tougher on those border restrictions is extremely high,’ she said.

‘The government is considering what further action we take to make sure the bubble, as we call it, of those border communities, is maintained.’
